What is a poster session?
Some instructors who teach a Research-Focused First-Year Seminar choose to participate in the annual First-Year Seminar Poster Session, often using the event as the students' final research project. As a result, students enrolled in a Research-Focused First-Year Seminar may have an opportunity to present their findings on a larger scale outside of a typical first year classroom.
At a poster session, presenters share their work in the form of a large poster. Attendees can view each poster and speak with presenters about their findings. Poster sessions are common events for graduate students to participate in; the University of Iowa also holds poster sessions for undergraduates who are involved in research on campus. Being able to participate in a poster session as a first year, first semester student is an incredibly unique learning experience, and we are excited to offer this opportunity each fall.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Angie Lamb in advance at (319) 335-2062 or angela-lamb@uiowa.edu.
