About The Libraries

The University of Iowa Libraries advances direct engagement in learning, research, creative work, and clinical care through staff expertise and exceptional collections on our campus and worldwide. We provide and maintain access to nearly five million physical volumes spread across seven branch libraries and the Law Library, as well as over a thousand online databases. Our subject liaisons have expertise in every listed major and our librarians provide information literacy instruction and direct research consultations. We are not only a tremendous resource of information and inspiration, but we also provide myriad flexible spaces for group work and individual study.

Examples of ways this office could contribute to FYS instructors’ lesson plans, final projects, etc.

Librarians are are available to visit your classroom to provide a workshop on UI Libraries databases, research strategies, and library services. We can also host groups of varying sizes for one-shot instruction in a variety of subjects.

Over the years we've worked with many faculty to create a hands-on approach to thinking critically about primary sources and learning. We'll help you explore our collections and find resources to create projects that get your students to critically engage with the resources at the library.
